Nature’s Flu Shot – A Natural Way to Prevent the Flu

nature's flu shot
Flu season is just about here and I often hear people saying they’re getting the flu shot or need to go get one, but not me! I’m protecting myself from the flu naturally by taking a super nutrient packed mixture that I like to call nature’s flu shot!

This recipe contains fresh real food ingredients that will naturally boost your immune system and help protect you from the flu. I use a combination of eating a highly nutritious diet and supplementing with this nature’s flu shot in place of getting a flu shot, which can be hazardous to your health.

Why Flu Shots Cause More Harm than Good

Many people follow their doctors’ advice to get a flu shot without thinking twice, but do they even know what’s being injected into their body or the side effects it can cause? As with most medications and vaccines that physicians push, they rarely ever mention the harmful effects they can cause.

Flu vaccines contain toxic ingredients such as heavy metals and mercury. This past year, genetically modified organisms (GMO’s) have also been added to list of harmful ingredients in flu shots.

According to this study, flu vaccines only prevent the flu in 1.5% of adults. Flu shots also come with serious health risks including: immunosuppression, increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease, neurological disorders, autoimmune diseases, neurological disorders, seizures, miscarriages, and death.

Nature’s Flu Shot Can Aid in Preventing the Flu Naturally!

There are several ways to help prevent the flu naturally and one of the best ways is to boost your immune system with real food, in addition to getting adequate sleep and limiting stress.

What’s in this recipe? Super food ingredients including: turmeric, cayenne pepper, ginger, raw honey, and lemon. Turmeric is a super-spice that contains a high amount of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties,  which stimulate the immune system. Ginger and raw honey are also powerful immune boosters that have antibiotic effects and are effective in fighting inflammation.

With all of these ingredients combined, this nature’s flu shot is the ultimate immune boosting remedy.

Nature’s Flu Shot Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 fresh lemon
  • 3-5 garlic cloves (crushed)
  • 1 tablespoon raw honey (see it here)
  • 1/2 tablespoon ginger (preferably fresh and grated)
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne powder (see it here)
  • 1/8 teaspoon turmeric (see it here)
  • 1 cup of water

How to Take Nature’s Flu Shot:

Combine all ingredients and stir well.
Take daily!

I usually make this nature’s flu shot fresh each day. When the ingredients are consumed fresh, they contain the most nutrients. The recipe comes out to being about a cup of super nutrient packed juice, so instead of taking it all at once, I take about 1/4 cup at a time, several times throughout the day!

love this recipe…earlier, someone posted a question about flu shots. The negative remarks made me post my age, and refusal for the shots and all. I was just trying to post tis on face book, on my timeline.

As we get older, the less we have time and money for the ‘shots’ and their affects. Our youth need to understand more about man made anything, get back to the way we were created and take better care of ourselves. Youth, any one 50 and younger, I am 77.-

Thank you for your serving us old folk with good ideas, backing what we believe and reading..:-)

As a microbiologist and epidemiologist, I recommend that providing “health advice” that stresses the dangers of vaccination is both unethical and damaging to immune compromised, elderly, and young children; notably, these patients are most likely to be hospitalized and die from complications of the flu and there is no “natural” prevention for a virus other than inoculation by antibodies to the immune system. As in hepatitis, polio, measles, and whooping cough, many of these vaccines are now mercury-free as well as preservative-free, and I just wanted to caution you that whilst it is FANTASTIC to encourage people to naturally boost their inherent immunity with herbs and vitamins, that acquired immunity saves lives, and prevents deaths. Just a thought….

Linda, I ususally put together something like this when I feel the flu coming on, whatsoever. Take it everyday until the symptoms are gone. These natural remedies will fix sickness much better than you think.

I love the natural way and am all for natural healing. Pharmaceutical companies are only in it for the money, they don’t care about your health. I wish more people were educated on this. /:

I’m totally with you here. My husband is in the army and they are required to get a flu shot each year, but I am not a fan. However, I clicked on the link the study and in the summary of its findings it seemed to say the shot was “moderately” effective. I did not see the 1.5% number…. Did I miss something? The study did say effectiveness is lacking and studies studying effectiveness news to increase…

This recipe looks good, but I cant get acces to organic lemons so I have to leave that one out. I got raw honey from the store, its cold pressed and tastes different than other so called honey. In the near future I want to taste raw honey, never had raw honey I think.

I also have a good recipe that I have been using for a over 6 months now.
It wakes me up in the morning to go to school and stay focused.
At night it seduces you to sleep lol. Also very nutrient dense.

    1 tsp turmeric
    1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cayenne ( most important one, blood circulation etc)
    Little piece of ginger
    Pinch of black pepper
Sometimes I add lemon if its organic

Boil 2 cups of water, then add the everything in the pan.
Let it stay there on low heat for a few minutes.
Enjoy and drink 2-3 times a day :)

And I am grateful for your garlic post I discovered back in May.
I only had 1 major headache back in September but that was because I slacked a little bit and I wasnt taking garlic, turmeric and all that for a week or something.
It really works! It has far more benefits then only not getting sick!

Have you thought about Vitamin D supplementation as a way to prevent colds, rather than getting colds and using allopathic measures like remedies? It’s possible that colds/influenza/etc. are symptomatic of Vitamin D deficiency – Dr. Mercola’s written a thought-provoking article on this:
    http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/12/14/study-shows-vitamin-d-cuts-flu-by-nearly-50.aspx
Anyway, seems worth it to treat the colds at the source and prevent them, and then have this recipe in your back pocket if you do happen to get one. Since supplementing large doses of Vitamin D, though, I haven’t had a cold in over three years. Used to get them all the time.

    Cheers,
    Devin

Hi Devin, thanks for mentioning vitamin D, that is another great way to boost the immune system and prevent the flu.

Good question! I would also like to know if it is good for children? I have 4 and do not get them flu shots. What does this taste like? Will they even drink it if they can? LOL

      • says

I wouldn’t give it to your baby- especially under 1, they are not supposed to be given honey because of the risk of infant botululism.
As for yourself- many of the ingredients women consume in different foods/ cultures. I suggest you speak to your doctor or midwife as well.

        (Ashleigh, doula in training)

      • Lori, Health Extremist says

We give it to the children in our family, we just decrease the amount and add in fruit or honey to improve the taste.

    • Lori, Health Extremist says

We typically eat most of these in our diet, and we just decrease the amount when giving it to children in the family (we also add some more fruit or honey to improve the taste for them). You may want to consider starting out with a smaller amount if you don’t typically eat these foods. I’m not sure what age your child is, but honey should not be given to those under 1 year old.

  6. Jennifer says

Do you boil the water? I take this concoction when I’m sick but I’ve always made it like a hot tea. Does the temperature of the water matter/make a difference?

    • Lori, Health Extremist says

You can have it at room temperature or add the ingredients to tea, I’ve done both. The potency of the nutrients should remain about the same, unless they are boiled in the water for a long period of time.

  7. Kristy says

I have a similar question to Jennifer, do we boil the mixture? Also I’m assuming it’s the juice of one lemon? Thanks!

    • Lori, Health Extremist says

You can boil the water and add the ingredients to it or have it a room temperature, I make it both ways. Yes, just juice one fresh lemon, preferably organic if possible. :)

    • Lori, Health Extremist says

You can just leave out those ingredients, the honey, ginger and other ingredients are still great immune boosters.

  8. HappyMama says

Has anyone tried this steeped & strained (like tea)? Or do you need to consume the ingredients whole? Not sure I can stomach that (also pregnant) :) Thanks!

Thank you so much for posting this. I had mixed feelings about getting myself and my daughters the flu shot this year. I had been reading more and more about why not to get them, I am highly against GMO’s (which I had no idea were in the shots until I read your article!), and I found out my father, one of the healthiest people I know has not gotten a flu shot for nearly a decade.
Just as I was about to say a strong, No!” to the flu vaccine this year, my husband’s uncle died unexpectedly from the flu and it scared my husband so much we agreed our family would get the flu shot. Immediately afterwards my eldest came down with the awful stomach flu, then I got the flu, perhaps because my immune system was already weakened by being between two surgeries for a rare nerve disorder. We sent our daughter back to school for a day and she caught an upper respiratory virus that she had for over two weeks. As a result we’ve decided to homeschool for at least the rest of the year. She’s always been so healthy, and I make essential oil hand sanitizers and natural products at home, but it seems I catch things the germs too late as her school has no policy of teaching kids to cover coughs or wash their hands correctly. It drives me crazy!
I’m sorry- back to my point, I don’t know what the right answer is about the flu shot. On one hand it killed my husband’s uncle, which has caused my husband much grief, but then we got the shot and half our family members got the flu soon thereafter. Do you suggest to take your flu shot just daily during the winter? Are the measurements adequate for children too, or should I half it or perhaps add more raw local honey to sweeten it more? Thanks so much! Sorry to write so much, but this has been very much on my mind, and I simply do not know what to do.

    • Lori Klein says

It can be a very difficult decision to make. Personally, I am against ever getting a vaccine (flu-shot or any type) again because of my experience with them in the past. When I was a child, I was fully vaccinated and following a few of the vaccines it destroyed my immune system. Hope you are able to avoid the flu! Yes, I take the natural ‘flu shot’ daily. For children I would definitely cut the recipe in half and as you mentioned, add some raw honey and serve it as warm tea.

    • Kate says

There is no such thing as “the stomach flu”. Influenza virus only infects the upper and lower respiratory tract. What your child likely had was a norovirus.

  10. Anonymous says

Have been taking cayenne powder and turmeric for several years about a teaspoon daily. Haven’t had the flu in over 25 years

  11. Anonymous says

ohhh no i just had a flu shot :( mum makes me have it because i qualify to get it free but if its more damaging i shall tell her that.

  12. Kate says

I like your site for the recipes, but this page has a lot of misinformation on it. Anecdotal evidence is not evidence. I can’t even begin to take the time to debunk everything, but, just to start, the flu shot does NOT increase Alzheimer’s risk.
    http://blog.alz.org/timely-topic-flu-vaccine-not-linked-to-alzheimers/
    http://www.cnn.com/2011/HEALTH/expert.q.a/11/07/flu.shot.alzheimers.shu/
^That’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Also, the flu vaccine is contraindicated for pregnant people to begin with…so saying it causes miscarriages – as if the medical field is trying to hide such a fact – is misleading.

    • Kate says

Also, in regard to the study you posted—there is a difference between infection and disease. People vaccinated against the flu can still be infected with the virus, but are much more likely to be asymptomatic or have much less severe symptoms. http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/vaccineeffect.htm

(sorry, I’m an immunology graduate student–it’s disheartening to put in thousands of hours into research, classes, and understanding how vaccines and diseases work on a molecular level, only for the general public to turn up their noses at science).
